In the early 1980s, the Business/Society/Government Division of the Midwest Business Administration Association came into existence as a result of the efforts of Harvey Nussbaum with support from Anthony Pagano and JoAnn Verdin. After devoting much time and effort to establishing the Division, they decided that it was time to turn over leadership to others, so for 1991 they asked Jim Breyley, Jr., to serve as Co-Chair.
Jim served as Co-Chair from 1991 through 1993 and then as Chair from 1994 through 2003. Since that time, he and Steven Palmer alternately have served as Chair.
Then in April of 2005, Steve called for formalizing the Division as the Business, Society & Government Consortium; at the same time, he began efforts to obtain formal recognition from MBAAI. He also announced that double-blind refereed proceedings would be created for the first time commencing with the 2006 annual meeting.
